South Lake Union (SLU) is a Seattle neighborhood with a population of just over 4000 residents and a median age of 36. Located on the top of Lake Union, its main thoroughfares are Valley and Mercer Streets (east-and- westbound) as well as Dexter, 9 th , Westlake and Fairview Avenues N. and Eastlake Avenue E. (north and southbound). Once home to blue-collar workers and a major industrial center of the city, recently it has begun a transition into a hip urban neighborhood. Some major companies have claimed South Lake Union as its base of operations including the likes of Amazon, REI, Microsoft and in the near future Expedia. South Lake Union is still not done growing as the Amazon campus alone has more than a dozen buildings. The city streets are very clean and many of the buildings are newly constructed.
Along the parallel of Dexter and Fairview avenues, residential and commercial towers are being built to provide ample housing options to thousands of Amazon employees and biotech workers in the neighborhood. South Lake Union is also home to Denny Park, which is the oldest park in the city. It is a perfect community for singles transitioning from apartment to condo living. Public transportation is no issue as the number of people who rely on transit in Seattle is 272% higher than the national average.
