Downtown Everett is expected to see a major change within the next 20 years. The urban core is evolving from a gritty, post-industrial downtown to one where the sidewalks are bustling with activity from morning to night. Developers have invested tens of millions of dollars into the development of downtown Everett and its periphery in recent years and more money is on the way. Part of the economic trend points to more visitors, as well as the Boeing Co., Naval Station Everett and the many events at the Xfinity Arena and adjoining conference center. The city has also supported new arts and cultural facilities, as well as institutions in and near downtown, such as a farmers market, the Schack Art Center and Jetty Island Park.
According to a 2014 market study by Seattle-based O’Connor Consulting Group for the Port of Everett, the median household income is expected to rise to $56,857 by 2018, an increase of $6,000 since 2013. City planners have expectations of nearly 40% growth by 2035 bringing the total population to around 143,000. County planners put that number even higher, about 60,000 more and expect job growth to keep pace with the population. The area offers an array of homes to choose from including two-bedroom, one-bath bungalows to five-bedroom, 2.5 bath colonials as well as apartments, condos; townhomes and studios.
