The city of Kirkland is an urban, 17.83 square mile bike friendly waterfront community in King County. It is well known for its unique downtown waterfront (the only east side downtown frontage along Lake Washington’s shoreline), with restaurants, art galleries, parks, a performing arts center, beaches and much more. The city is experiencing and forecasting a continued growth in commercial and residential development similar to growth throughout the Puget Sound Region. Kirkland is the 12th largest city in the state and has about 85,000 people living there. About half of the residents are married and 30% are families with children. 60% of homes are owned, while 34% are rented. The city is located in the Lake Washington School district and is easily accessible by I-405. The area around Central Way makes up the primary business district in Kirkland. If you’re interested in dining at the waterfront, try The Slip for no-nonsense burgers, or Bin On The Lake for a fancier occasion.
Further north, the Juanita neighborhood also has a lot to offer, the most obvious being the waterfront attractions. Juanita Beach Park has a swimming area and dock, beach volleyball and horseshoe pits, and a playground and ball fields. Juanita Bay Park is outdoorsy, with trails and wetland observation opportunities. As with downtown Kirkland, Juanita also has many shops, restaurants, and spas, including Café Juanita which comes highly recommended, and Urban Coffee Lounge, which embodies the vibe of Kirkland all on its own. In 2014, Money Magazine ranked Kirkland number 5 in the Best Places to Live Top 100 in the US. Money.com says Seattle’s east side suburbs can blur together into a pleasant mass of good schools, great jobs, and family-friendly neighborhoods. Kirkland offers a unique and lively downtown and many scenic neighborhoods on the shores of Lake Washington.
