SR 520 links Redmond to Bellevue and Seattle. Sound Transit's 2 Line light rail reached Redmond Technology station in Overlake in April 2024 and extended to Downtown Redmond on May 10, 2025, with service across Lake Washington to Seattle beginning March 28, 2026.

A little history

Settlers first called the area Salmonberg and then Melrose before Luke McRedmond, an early homesteader and postmaster, petitioned for the name Redmond in 1883. The town incorporated on December 31, 1912. Microsoft moved its headquarters here in 1986 and remains the city's largest employer. Today Redmond is home to about 83,300 people (Washington OFM, April 1, 2026 estimate).
